Who We Are

West Witch Records is an indipendent italian metal label (although it keeps eye and mind open to every other genre of music) whose interest resides in "different sounds". How many times have you heard or read this statement? A hundred, a thousand times. That happens because no label would describe itself as a host for plain, not surprising, unneeded, abused and conformed/mainstream music. Where do we mark a difference? Well... we are really looking for different music.
There is a rule that works fine for commercial music: a minimum characterization of the artist conveyed through a conventional "dress" (production of their music with typical sounds and standards, non experimental layout of booklets, advertisment, look and so on) grants maximum result in marketing terms. While this way of acting is definitely effective to make a lot of money, it considerably reduces the personality of the music which is often forgotten by the audience once it has been completely exploited by the market. The music becomes "old" and seems to be no more worth of been listened to intensively. The fact is that music is not a good which withers and dies. It is potentially immortal and it represents much more than the money it can produce.
What do we want? We want to operate in music with an approach that values its inspiration and its quality. We are not naives and we live in this age as everyone else: we accept that some standards are necessary to face new technologies and evolving tastes of the audience; but we do not renounce to seek something different. We want to hear sounds taylored on a specific band, not typical genre "commandments" that tend to reduce every distinctive expression to a heard-at-least-a-thousend-times music. We do not necessarily want a strange sound, we prefer a "curious mind"; a sound expressing the freedom to evolve beyond paradigms and certain definitions to venture bravely to the root of its inspiration; a sound that becomes aware of its influences (because there's no music unaffected by them) but with a will to surpass and change them. In few words, we look forward to find bands which aim to a personal approach to music, that's all.
We do not aim to a greatly prepared standard music, perfect but soulless. We aim to the UNIQUE. Unique is not perfect: it may contain faults, it may be rough and immature or excessive and mad. But it will be ONE, an individual which could be loved or hated but will always be recognizable and respected.
